Cancer Conversations CIC was founded by clinicians who have seen first-hand how fear, stigma, lack of trusted information, cultural barriers and unequal access can delay cancer diagnosis and treatment.
We exist to change that.
Our work brings together communities, healthcare professionals, researchers, advocates and organisations to improve cancer literacy and ensure that people are not left behind because of ethnicity, culture, language, background or postcode.
We do not simply deliver information to communities. We listen, build trust, co-create solutions and work with communities to shape programmes that reflect their real experiences and needs.
We work with diverse ethnic communities including:
African Communities
Caribbean Communities
Asian Communities
Eastern European Communities
Other underserved populations
Cancer Conversations CIC delivers and supports:
Community cancer awareness events
Educational webinars
Cancer literacy workshops
Community listening sessions
Patient and public involvement activities
Partnerships with NHS organisations, universities, charities and community groups
Culturally appropriate cancer resources
Advocacy on cancer inequalities
Support for research engagement and inclusion
Although we began in Leicester, our community engagement, digital programmes and collaborations now reach communities across the UK and internationally.
We make cancer information easier to understand, culturally relevant and accessible. We help communities learn about symptoms, screening, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and support
We create spaces where people can ask questions, challenge myths, share experiences and feel confident making informed decisions about their health
We advocate for fairer access to cancer information, screening, diagnosis, treatment, research and support, especially for communities who are often underrepresented or underserved
We work with community leaders, faith groups, healthcare teams and people with lived experience to strengthen relationships between communities and healthcare services
We believe communities should not only be consulted. They should be active partners in designing the services, resources and interventions that affect them
Why This Matters
Cancer affects every community, but cancer outcomes are not equal.
For many people from ethnic minority and underserved communities, barriers can include:
Fear and stigma around cancer.
Limited awareness of symptoms and screening.
Language and cultural barriers.
Mistrust of healthcare systems.
Poor access to reliable information.
Lack of representation in research.
Delayed help-seeking.
Services that do not always reflect community needs.
Cancer Conversations CIC exists to bridge these gaps through education, trust-building, advocacy and community-led action.
